The Consular Section in Addis AbabaOne of the consular responsibilities of the Embassy is the protection and promotion of the interests of Dutch nationals abroad. Consular work comprises among other things the issuance of passports, visas, certificates and judicial documents, the conduct of nationality investigations and legalisation of documents. In addition, a Netherlands Embassy takes care of detainees of Dutch origin.
What tasks can an Embassy not do for you?
- Arrange better care in a hospital or prison than the local inhabitants receive.
- Pay the bills of hotels, restaurants, medicines, doctors, etc.
- Pay airline or train tickets for the return journey to the Netherlands.
- Arrange accommodation, work or a work permit.
- Get someone out of prison.
- Pay solicitors' or barristers' fees or pay bails or sureties.
- Assist Dutch nationals with a second nationality who are in the country of that second nationality.
- Take charge of money, luggage, etc.
- Mediate in civil disputes.
